Meet Laura

I'm Laura, and my journey as an educator has always been driven by the belief that learning should be a joyful and holistic experience. As a former full-time teacher, I saw firsthand the pressures and stresses facing both students and teachers. I discovered that by stepping outside and embracing the natural world, we could find a renewed sense of calm and connection. This realization led me to create Merry Nature, a space dedicated to helping teachers rediscover the simple power of nature-based mindfulness. My mission is to give you the practical tools and inspiration you need to bring these mindful moments into your school, transforming the well-being of your students and yourself.

My Story

My journey as an educator has always been driven by the belief that learning should be a joyful and holistic experience. As a teacher from Ontario, Canada, I've had the privilege of bringing my passion for education to different corners of the world, including helping to launch a primary school's Physical Education program in Geneva, Switzerland.

My connection to the outdoors isn't new—it's rooted in fond childhood memories of playing in the backyard, family summer adventures, and carving tracks on winter ski slopes. However, it was the unique challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic that truly transformed my professional life. Seeing the immense pressures on both students and teachers, I was prompted to make a personal commitment: to take my learners outdoors as much as possible.

With determination and foresight, I was able to be outdoors for most of the school year, even in a relatively moderate climate. The results were undeniable and immediate: my learners showed improved focus, motivation, and mood. The benefits were so clear that I felt compelled to learn more. This led me to dive into personal reading, inspired by advocates like Richard Louv, and to earn a certificate from the Natural Learning Institute in the USA.

Since then, my mission has been anchored in the belief that more is better when it comes to nature-based learning. I began sharing this passion, speaking at events like the International School of Geneva, the Council of Outdoor Educators of Ontario, and the Nature School in Ontario. My goal is to give you the practical tools and inspiration you need to bring these mindful moments into your school, transforming the well-being of your students and yourself.

My reach is now expanding with the development of my signature implementation program, 100 For Earth. This initiative is designed to help schools build upon the foundation of my talks and workshops, providing a practical, long-term approach to integrating nature into daily learning.

Join me in riding this wave of momentum. Whether you're ready to book a workshop, join our free community, or explore the 100 For Earth initiative, I'm here to help you bring a little more joy and nature into your classroom.
